Co-presented with Shapeshifters Cinema
STILL/MOVING is a triptych of collaborative compositions created by an international working group of artists and writers who formed out of a 3-day virtual workshop, led by Lynne Sachs and Paolo Javier, in May 2020.
During this initial workshop, a cohort of folks from around the world (Uruguay, Ireland, and all across the US) met over Zoom to explore the resonances and ruptures between still/moving images and written/spoken words. Inspired by the experience, the participants decided to continue working together and have since made two more collaborative projects over the ensuing months combining language and moving imagery in various forms.
Thursday 12/17 at 8PM EST live Zoom Q&A with Still/Moving participants
Still/Moving (May 2020)
A collaborative video performance, which meditates on interior spaces, exterior forces, digital interface, safety, windows, translation, and shelter-in-place. The video included is the final showcase of participants’ work, recorded from the live performance over Zoom during the initial 3-day workshop in May 2020.
Exquisite Corpse (July 2020)
The Exquisite Corpse is the second collaborative project to emerge from the Still/Moving workshop in May 2020. The piece reflects our desire to inhabit each other’s creative cosmos, to sprout from the depths of our stillness and to enter a free-for-all of exchanging ideas. Here, the delineated borders of the outside world give way to something unknown and speculative: the blending of words and images, self and other.
The Tenuous We (August/September 2020)
A multi-faceted collaborative potlatch.
Participants: Emily Apter, Danielle Chu, Quin de la Mer, Melissa Ferrari, Nina Fonoroff, Edith Goldenhar, Laura Harris, Caroline Losneck, Veronica Pamoukaghlian, Kathleen Quillian, Sujani Reddy, Lynne Sachs, Moira Sweeney, Fereshteh Toosi, Jordon Wong, Mary Magsamen
The third STILL/MOVING collaborative video, will be presented by Shapeshifters Cinema (Oakland, CA) beginning December 20, 2020 at 10PM EST, followed by an additional live filmmaker Q&A.
