Teen DocMakers Year-End Showcase
Teen DocMakers Year-End Showcase is taking place #IntheCinema for FREE June 8 at 7pm.
For its 2021-2022 yearlong season, the participants of the Teen DocMakers program undertook a unique challenge: to make short films that reference the legacy of directness and spontaneity that has defined the documentary work of the Maysles brothers since the 1960’s, yet reflect their contemporary reality. This season’s topics include: the criminal and corrupt practices that enable gentrification; the inner workings of a teenage girl’s mind as she navigates the conflicts and struggles of school and family in New York City; an anthropological deep dive into the Furry subculture; a self-portrait of a young person exploring the difficulties of friendship during the time of a pandemic; and the epic journey of a sneaker reseller. Each filmmaker brings a unique approach and fresh perspective to their work, and the generous feedback from the Maysles Teaching Artist cohort has helped shape and refine each piece. We look forward to debuting these films at the Teen DocMakers showcase.
