In October, people throughout Brazil will return to the election polls to decide the future of their democracy, as Workers’ Party leader and former president Lula is set to oppose current radical right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro. News outlets and political commentators are drumming up this election to be the most important in the history of Brazil, a question of whether true democracy will prevail in a country that has repeatedly seen it taken away.
ABC da Greve allows us to understand the political origins of Lula, the most beloved political leader in Brazil’s history, and to witness an essential moment of workers rights victories which Lula helped win during the late 70s and early 80s in São Paulo.
Special thanks to Maria and João Pedro Hirszman
