Xavier Legrand, 2017, 93 min
A broken marriage leads to a bitter custody battle with an embattled son at the center in this tense family drama that will keep audiences guessing and leave them with their hearts in their throats. Winner of the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, the film is a harrowing study of a family coming undone in the midst of a bitter custody battle. Custody will open in late June 2018 in the US.
"We will be seeing much more of this filmmaker in the years to come. Legrand operates in the raw social realist tradition of such auteurs as Maurice Pialat and the Dardenne brothers, stripping away sentimentality in favor of direct, observational filmmaking."– Peter Debruge, Variety
“An almost unbearably-tense, no-holds-barred drive... Custody is a can’t-look-away hybrid of gruelling reality and heightened cinematic technique." – Fionnuala Halligan, Screen International
“Razor-sharp. An impressive feature debut.” – Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times
