Before he was convicted of murdering a policeman in 1981 and sentenced to die, Mumia Abu-Jamal was a gifted journalist and brilliant writer. Now, after more than forty years in prison, Mumia is not only still alive but continues to report, provoke, and enthuse.
Long Distance Revolutionary is an inspiring portrait of a man whom many consider to be America’s most famous political prisoner—a man whose very existence tests our beliefs about justice and freedom itself. Through prison interviews, archival footage, and dramatic readings, this riveting film explores Mumia’s life before and after incarceration, including death row. A chorus of potent voices—including Cornel West, Alice Walker, Angela Davis and so many others—take the audience on a remarkable journey. In the words of Angela Davis, “Mumia is the most eloquent and most powerful opponent of the death penalty in the world. He is the 21 st century Frederick Douglass.”

Mumia: Long Distance Revolutionary is Stephen Vittoria’s most recent documentary (writer, director, producer, editor) and was released by First Run Features. His last film, One Bright Shining Moment: The Forgotten Summer of George McGovern won top honors at the Sarasota Film Festival as “Best Documentary Feature” and was also released by First Run Features. Vittoria was a producer on two feature documentaries by Academy Award winning filmmaker Alex Gibney: Gonzo: The Life & Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson and Ken Kesey’s Magic Trip. Recently, Vittoria co-authored with Mumia Abu-Jamal the three book series “Murder Incorporated: Empire, Genocide, and Manifest Destiny” published by Prison Radio and Chicago Review Press. Vittoria has edited numerous theatrical movie trailers and is the founder and creative director of two Southern California production companies – Street Legal Cinema and Deep Image.
Noelle Hanrahan, Esq. P.I. Specializes research and interviews for civil and criminal defense investigations, and is a licensed private investigator in Pennsylvania and barred in Pennsylvania. Ms. Hanrahan has a B.A. from Stanford University, and an M.A. in Criminal Justice, from Boston University, and a J.D. from Rutgers University Law School. Ms. Hanrahan was also a producer on the documentary feature film “Mumia: Long Distance Revolutionary” and along with Prison Radio & Chicago Review Press published and distributed the three-book series “Murder Incorporated,” written by Mumia Abu-Jamal & Stephen Vittoria.
