Presented by Spirit of Mandela's About the People (AtP) Broadcast Committee
AtP - Special Feature: 'Who Is Mumia?' (2023, 23 min) is the first Special Feature segment in a series of multimedia projects by Spirit of Mandela's AtP Broadcast Committee, which aims to highlight grassroots organizing and revolutionary efforts from a ground-level perspective. ‘Who Is Mumia?’ highlights the life of renowned journalist, Freedom Fighter, and Political Prisoner, Mumia Abu-Jamal. This Special Feature seeks to separate fact from fiction about Mumia, the controversy around his almost 42 years of imprisonment, and the current fight to free him, with an emphasis on the realtime urgency of Philly's Native Son finally coming home.
After the film screening members of the AtP crew & other organizers who contributed to ‘Who Is Mumia?’ will discuss the making of the feature—fielding questions, comments & proposals for next moves for the About the People project moving forward. This will be immediately followed by a Welcome Home party, in honor of our comrades recently released from prison slavery, especially since the outbreak which further disrupted the already-arduous process of returning home from inside for so many.
The funds raised will go to those still incarcerated—namely long-time NY Political Prisoners Reverend Joy Powell and Bro Kamau Sadiki, as well as the eight remaining Stop the Raids-NYC comrades still languishing in cages behind the so-called “gang raids” that ramped up in the region in 2016. We will have the honor of hearing from some of these dear comrades themselves, from behind the wall, along with their loved ones, including Bro Sadiki’s daughter, K’sisay Sadiki.
We hope to see you all there. Please support this vital effort to build the Peoples’ Senate here in the Northeast region—Free the Land, Free ‘Em All!
Funds from the evening will support the following: Stop The Raids Survival Funds , Reverend Joy Powell, and Bro Sadiki
ACCESSIBILITY* only the first portion of the event (screening + discussion) will be wheelchair accessible. please don’t hesitate to reach out to accessibility@maysles.org for questions or accommodation requests!
