Sum of My Parts documents the ways that dementia has shifts the terrain of the filmmakers relationship with his mother. Over the course of a year, the filmmaker records his conversations with her. These recordings become are a powerful statement about the experience of dementia, and reflect the journey into healing the divisions which further isolate people with dementia in our culture. 

On Monday, November 30th at 4pm ET join us for a panel discussion with Lynn Casteel Harper, Sonja Shute and filmmaker Chris Bravo about the recognizing and combating stigma towards dementia as well as the importance of caregivers in maintaining critical connections with our loved ones living with this disease

Panelists: 

Lynn Casteel Harper is a writer, minister, and chaplain.  She is the author of On Vanishing (Catapult, April 2020), a nonfiction book that explores the dimensions of spirituality, social justice, and dementia. An ordained Baptist minister, Lynn served as the nursing home chaplain at a continuing care retirement community on the New Jersey shore for seven years.  She is currently the Minister of Older Adults at The Riverside Church in the City of New York.  Originally from southeast Missouri, Lynn lives in New York City with her spouse Ryan Harper. 

Sonja Shute is the Senior Director of PSS Circle of Care, a caregiver support program which offers critical services and support throughout all five boroughs of New York City. She is currently certified as Dementia Communication Essentials Trainer, through the Silver Dawn Training Institute, and is also certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Chris Bravo is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. His current projects focus on addressing the marginalization experienced by people living with dementia, and by the caregiving community in general. His work aims to generate a conversation with people who live with this disease, and amplify their voices in our cultural discussion.
