BETWEEN GOD & I
Yara COSTA (language – Portuguese) Mozambique, 2018, 59min
Karen is a Muslim independent young woman who advocates for Sharia in the diverse Island of Mozambique but is filled with doubts and contradictions about her identity and the community she lives in. In this historical multicultural Island with deeply rooted traditions, a moderate Islam has so far harmoniously coexisted with other religions. But Karen’s “pure Islam” doesn't tolerate the old cultural practices and traditions.

Miracle
Yara COSTA (language – Portugaise) Mozambica, 2018, 59min
Sisonke feels a crippling guilt for not being able to save her daughter from the trauma of the shack fire that killed her husband. So, she must fix it. Through her searches in different expressions of faith, she looks for an answer and a miracle. She dares God by committing to what is asked of her so that she gets her miracle. Unfortunately, this deafens her from the truth that is shown her, blinded to see the happiness in Zonke’s eyes that say – I am not my condition. Sisonke wants what she wants, and she will get it no matter what.

This program is part of the African Film Festival.
