Robert Elfstrom, 1972, 86 min.
Made at a time when Pete Seeger was still blacklisted from many mainstream media outlets, A SONG AND A STONE combines concert footage, anti-war demonstrations, and conversations with friends and family to create personal and historical context for one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th Century. In addition to Seeger’s struggles against the Vietnam War, the film highlights his efforts with the Clearwater Sloop to clean up his beloved Hudson River. It also features a rare appearance on the Johnny Cash Show, his remembrances of Woody Guthrie, and gatherings with wife, Toshi Seeger, and his father, renowned musicologist Charles Seeger.
