BIPOC Doc Editors is excited to announce a new series of editing masterclasses at the Maysles Documentary Center in New York City. Each in-person class features the editors of recent acclaimed documentaries as they share their process and take you on a deep dive from rough cut to picture lock. The second installment will be hosted by editors, Blair McClendon and Malika Zouhali-Worrall and will include a screening of UNION!

Told in gripping verité, a group of current and former Amazon workers in New York City’s Staten Island takes on one of the world’s largest and most powerful companies in the fight to unionize.

• Blair McClendon is a New York based writer, film editor, and filmmaker. His films have screened at Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and TIFF, and include Aftersun, After Sherman, The Assistant, Mr. Soul!, Give Up the Ghost, and Walk for Mehas. Blair’s writing has been published in n+1, the New Republic, the New York Times Magazine, and elsewhere.

• Malika Zouhali-Worrall is a British/Moroccan filmmaker based in New York. Her films examine the intimacy created by networks of care and community, whether through art, caregiving, or political action. An Emmy Award-winning director, her directing credits include the feature-length documentaries, CALL ME KUCHU (2012, Berlin Film Festival, Netflix) and THANK YOU FOR PLAYING (2015, Tribeca, News & Television Emmy Award), both of which were theatrically-released to critical acclaim. Malika’s episodic directing credits include an episode of the Peabody award-winning TV series Art in the Twenty-First Century, which broadcast nationally in June 2023. Malika has also directed numerous short films including, most recently, VIDEO VISIT (2022), which was released by Field of Vision after festival screenings including SXSW, AFI Fest, Blackstar, and BAM Cinemafest. She has directed short and episodic work for The New York Times OpDocs, French broadcaster ARTE, and PBS American Masters.
